Loop template for posts archive on default/custom taxonomies

  • I’m following with issues #2 and #3 from this thread.

My WP setup is the following:
    * I changed permalinks from category to seccion and from tags to tema.
    * Using ACF, I have created two custom taxonomies: sexionario (label in plural and singular are Términos/Término) and tipo (label in plural and singular are Tipos/Tipo).

All post can have any of these taxonomies from above, and now I want to create a global taxonomy archive for each one of the taxonomies;. That is, with the exception of seccion, that each term has a specific template, I want to create 3 different design to be applied on all taxonomies to replace the default post archive layout.

For sexionario specially, I have created:
    * A page hero block element for the title + definition of a term, on a “Display_rule = Post Archive Término = All Términos”
    * A loop template block element with inherit query from template setup for the related posts of that term; that is: for the custom taxonomy archive, on a “Display_rule = Post Archive Término = All Términos”

The rest of taxonomies should follow the same structure -with minor design details- only changing the Display Rule to “All Tipos” and “All Tags”.

Page header is showing, as seen here. But I can’t make to posts being displayed on the frontend. This happens both with custom and default taxonomies, globally.

  • Hi there,

If you disable both of the loop template elements, do any posts show on the archive page?

If so, and you are using the Inherit loop from template option for the query loop block, you need to make sure that you remove ALL parameters you added to the query loop block.

  • Thank you Ying. I hadn’t removed all the parameters and that was causing the problem.

Now it works like a charm.

The only issue that I encounter (commented in another post, by mistake) is on the page hero block element, which title is not showing on when there are no related posts to that taxonomy.

I’ve shared a couple of example privately, looking forward to your help.

    Glad to hear that 🙂

For the title issue, you must have published posts for an archive to show the title.

Is there a way to force the title to show even if it doesn’t have any related posts?

  • Thank you Fernando. I will try with this pathway.

  • You’re welcome!
