Maximon number of elements allowed?

  • Hello

Is there a limit on the number of elements? I have a site that I need to create 3 elements per section and there are 50 sections… so 150 ish – just to start with

I don’t believe I can automate this (as 1 is a layout config, 2 are blocks – with images that change depending on which section we are in..)

So would 150 elements cause issues? obviously I am hoping that as only 3 are called per page – that the LOCATIONS and EXCLUSIONS minimise things?

Before I get too far down this route I thought that I would ask first

    Thank you
    Sarah

  • Hi there,

So would 150 elements cause issues?

Yes, it will slow down your site likely.

I don’t believe I can automate this (as 1 is a layout config, 2 are blocks – with images that change depending on which section we are in..)

You will have to find a way to automate it, 150 elements just don’t sound right. And it will be a lot of manual work.

Can you explain what will the content be for the 3 elements so I can see the possibilities of automate them?

  • Hi Ying

Hmm that was my worry – is the location not the same as widget options ie show and hide things in certain pages?

anyway this is a school site and so each school is a category in woo and each school has own name, banner, colour and sidebar, then each school has own products and sub-cats

I was using elements to set

1 a sidebar as a layout (for each school but maybe I can do that for all schools actually…)
2 the content for that sidebar (I could use widgets and widget options plugin but was hoping to reduce plugins) as that is different for each school
3 the header has a image, logo and name (name is actually the school category name but I was not able to use the dynamic data to display that – if I could then I could reduce a few more as there are a handful of schools the same sidebar details but that only saves me a handful..)

when I have 50 schools (& rising) 3 elements per school – that is how I get that number

even if I created a template for each school that would still be 50 templates..

very open to thoughts on what else I can do though – but this was in magento and I had to create blocks and widgets for each school using that as well ..

    any other ideas very welcome

    thank you
    Sarah

  • 1. if all schools have a sidebar, you can enable the sidebar layout at customizer > layout > woocommerce.

    2. you can use block element – sidebar: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-sidebar/

    3. Set the dynamic content to title via GP’s dynamic option in the floating toolbar.

when I have 50 schools (& rising) 3 elements per school – that is how I get that number

You need to create custom fields for the product categories, then you can dynamically pull the data via elements, so 3 elements at most is what you need.

  • 2. I did not know of this option – thank you – however each school has different sidebar content, so I don’t think I can do that with 1 element

custom fields for product categories – I will look into what you mean by that! (Is that ACF custom fields?)

Thank you def food for thought here!!

    Sarah

  • however each school has different sidebar content, so I don’t think I can do that with 1 element

What kind of content? I really think you should look into custom fields, a plugin like ACF can be very helpful. It can help you reduce so much manual work 🙂

  • yes I will go do that – the content is usual content, PDF’s links, text, imagery etc nothing too taxing – I gues I was in the mindset of only using GP etc – but I can add ACF and use that also – thank you appreciate the advise

  • You are welcome   🙂
    Hope everything goes smoothly!

  • Hi Ying – is there any docs about what GP/GB block, hook, template etc and what they all do – so that I can work the way through pulling in ACF data? I am getting a little bogged down in hook/block/content template and the variety of dynamic data AND then the Display options appears or not – and again not sure which I should be using – I don’t want to take up your guys time on this, but looking through all the forums etc I am not finding anything I can check out ?

  • Here are all the doc for GP’s block elements:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/?s=block+element

    GB’s doc:https://docs.generateblocks.com/
    GP’s doc:https://docs.generatepress.com/

And here’s GP’s and GB’s YouTube video channel:
    https://www.youtube.com/generateblocks
    https://www.youtube.com/generatepress

    Hope that’s helpful 🙂
