Hi there
I am very stuck with the new Global Styles/Pattern system
To make it easier to see my confusion, I thought I would make a video (see link below)
I have also included a link to the page with the QL I currently have that seems to have some styles applied, in case that helps:

Thanks so much in anticipation of you rescuing me from my own ignorance!

Hi Simon,
Have you tried editing that particular pattern in GenerateBlocks > Local Patterns and applying the Global Style classes there?

Hi Alvind
Thanks – OK – I see now where to edit a pattern.
My only other question now is why is the first instance of the pattern placed on a page inside a purple container that I have managed to name ‘Articles for Hubs’ and when I place another instance of the pattern on any page i do not get that container?
See https://i.postimg.cc/HWRF25K1/Screenshot-2024-04-02-100707.png
I am asking because:
1. I cannot remember what I did to create this container and
2. I am not sure if it matters or what it isSo before I go placing this pattern on lots of pages, I thought I better check!
I can see its a block and where I have named it….but how did I create this block in the first place and what is it?
Cheers Simon

I’m trying to understand this:
..why is the first instance of the pattern placed on a page inside a purple container that I have managed to name ‘Articles for Hubs’ and when I place another instance of the pattern on any page i do not get that container?
So the container only appeared when first adding the pattern, and upon subsequent additions of the patterns, the container is not appearing. Am I understanding that correctly? If so, that’s definitely not normal behavior. What does the container contain?

Hi Alvind
Yes, that is correct.
The container has the pattern inside of it – see the screen shot here:

Whereas here’s another placed from the pattern that does not have it:

Hi there,
It has a purple container because its a Synced Pattern:
https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/reusable-blocks/When you select a block and choose the option to Create Pattern; WordPress provides the following options:
https://app.screencast.com/pgPzv9o4RfmLC
By default ( and rather annoyingly ) WP checks the
Synced
option by default.
Which means all instances of that pattern are synced, update one instance and they all update. If you don’t want a synced pattern, make sure to uncheck the Sync option when you create it.
For any synced patterns, that you want to unsync, select the block, and from its toolbar select the Detach option.

Hi David
Ahh – thanks for dymistifying that for me!
So I gather we DON’T want to use Sync because we’re using GBs new global styles, so there’s no point?

That’s correct. I think the best practice is to turn off the sync to prevent accidentally adding something inside the pattern on a certain page, and then finding out that it’s also updating in other places where we don’t want it to.
