New Global Styles Module

  • Seems like there’s been a pretty big change to how global styles work in the latest update. Do you have instructions on how to use this functionality now cause I can’t get it to work.

Specifically in relation to creating a global style for a button

    1. There’s no option to choose background colour and hover colour within the global styles options pane. Those colours seems to be only able to be set as a local style only which would mean I need to do that every time I create a button. That doesn’t seem to make sense.

    2. I set the padding for the buttons in the global style but when i add a new button (before I apply the global style) it applies the button default paddings as a local style. Then, when I try to clear the local styles so that the global padding applies the button completely breaks in a way that I can’t seem to reverse.

Either I’m not understanding the logic or this functionality is broken.

    Please advise.

  • Updated Notes:
    1. I see how to set the background colour but not the hover colour in the global style.
    2. It seems to be broken in the editor only, the frontend looks ok. But why? That’s pretty off putting when trying to build.

  • Hi there,

To apply Hover state styling, toggle the Hover button at the top of the block setting panel to switch to the Hover state: https://postimg.cc/NK0bkRWW

Regarding the broken styling in the editor, does it occur only when you’re editing buttons?

  • Regarding the broken styling in the editor, does it occur only when you’re editing buttons?

This is the only thing I’ve found so far. Again, it’s not broken on the frontend, only in the editor but this does make it difficult to place, set padding, etc. It seems like a bug of some kind.

See link to a screencast in private info so you can see what I’m talking about.

  • Hi there,

starting from scratch. Try the following:

    1. Add a Button block to the page
    2. style the local block as you require it, including any hover styles.
    3. Create a new global style, and give it a classname.
3.1 you will be prompted how to create the global style.
Choose: MOVE the Local Block Styles
    4. exit the global styles panel and update the post to commit the global style changes.

Now when you add a new button to the page, you can add the global style and clear the local styles.
Its advisable to save the Button as a Local Pattern, and add that to the page.

Editing the global styles Hover options.
    Edit the global style.
And beneath the Global Style selector you have other selector options – see here:

    https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/style-selectors/

Select the Hover selector to see the hover styles.
