  • I am re -building my existing site using GP/GB

Here is the url of one of my posts

    https://www.smartbabyadvice.com/how-to-get-more-sleep-as-a-new-mom/

I want to know what is the recommended size for the featured image as per the best practices.

I read that 1200 x628 is best as it looks good and also shares well with Facebook

My hero section container is presently set to 800px

I need to know what sizes of images do I need to create and upload to my wordpress site.

I also need some guidance on image compression and web-p formats to help improve site speeds

  • Hi there,

best practice is to choose an image size that suits your requirements.
Considering your site has an content imgage so it has a max width of 800px, and you’re concerned about performance then you should stick with the 800px wide image.

Compression wise, I personally compress all images from my desktop before uploading.

  • I am uploading 1280 x 720 px images and let the post resize it to 800px width and maintain the aspect ratio.
I read that this size also makes it better when my post gets shared on Facebook

What tools do you use to compress ? ( I have a macbook )

  • I use either ImageOptim:

    https://imageoptim.com/mac

Or i run compression in Affinity Photo.
