repositioning the post title in Newsroom

  • Hello,

in Newsroom how do I move the title of the articles (together with the category, author, and publication date) from the default position overlapping the featured image to a position below it, not overlapping, so that it appears between the image and the text?
    See the attached screenshot.

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

are you wanting to keep the same layout and style of the title and post meta ?
    If so:

    1. go to Appearance > Elements and edit the Single post header
    2. in the element settings sidebar:
2.1 set the Quick Hook to before content
2.2 uncheck the Disable featured image

    See here:

    3. Open the List View – see here:
    https://app.screencast.com/Sf8jpVHlhlCpX

The Container in Green needs to be kept, drag this to the top of the list view so its outside of the red container. Then delete the Red container.

    4. Publish the changes.

  • Hi David,

    thank you for the directions.

I managed to do what I had in mind by duplicating the Single post header element before following your instructions, and using the original element as an image (removing the title from it), and the second element as the title (following your instructions).
On desktop, it’s better to keep the original formatting, but I would like to apply this solution of placing the title under the image for mobile.

How do I apply different settings for desktop and mobile?
So: keep the standard Newsroom settings on desktop, and follow the procedure described earlier to put the title between the image and the text on mobile.

    thank you

  • It would require both Elements loading on the page.
And then use the hide-on-* classes in the relevant blocks to hide one for Mobile and one for Desktop.

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/responsive-display/#using-our-hide-on-classes

You can add the Class(es) to the Container Blocks > Advanced > Additional CSS classes.

  • Hello David,
    thank you for the explanations.

Instead, what should I do to move the area where the title appears (with category, author, and date) to the bottom of the featured image?
    (see attached screenshot)

  • Can you share a link to where i can see the issue ? As thats not how the original newsroom site is displayed so i need to see what changes have happened in the sites source code

  • Ah ok.
Edit the Element and select the top Container Block ( the one with the background image )
In the blocks toolbar you can use the Flex matrix shortcut to position its content to the bottom:

    https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/flexbox-alignment-matrix/

Note: this is a shortcut that sets the blocks layout settings for you.

  • Fantastic! I managed to do exactly what I wanted.
And if I can do it, it means that this theme is really well made and easy to use.
    Well done!

David, thank you for your help!

  • Glad to be of help 🙂
