RoadMap of GP

  • Hello,

    I hope you’re doing well.

I wanted to discuss the recent developments regarding Woocommerce blocks, specifically relating to carts and checkout pages.

It seems that the latest Woocommerce updates for blocks aren’t compatible with GP. I understand this can be frustrating, especially considering how useful Woocommerce blocks can be, particularly for creating custom templates and landing pages.

As someone who has developed over 40 Woocommerce websites with GP, I’m keen to know if there are any plans to address these issues. I’ve noticed discussions about this topic in various Facebook groups and Github issues, but unfortunately, there hasn’t been any response from the GP team.

It would be greatly appreciated if the GP team could provide some insight into whether there will be updates to address these compatibility issues. Your prompt attention to this matter would be invaluable in ensuring that GP remains functional for its users.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Kind Regards

    Andreas

  • Hi there,

It seems that the latest Woocommerce updates for blocks aren’t compatible with GP

I think we would need to begin by expressing what is meant by “aren’t compatible”
To the best of my knowledge Woocommerce blocks work as intended but:

GP Premium Woocommerce module does not apply to woo blocks, as their block code is not the same as their core templates code.

If there are other specific issues then let me know.

However in regards to improving integration with Woo Blocks, yes that is on our radar.

For styling we have a plan, that will use the new Styles Object we created in GenerateBlocks Pro 1.7 global styles. That same engine will be expanded to allow “block style kit” development for other blocks such as Woo. This has many benefits:

    a) users will be able to apply style changes at the block level
    b) provide way more stying options then is possible in the customizer
    c) we don’t get bogged down with maintaining obsolete* code for backward compatibility.

*Woo blocks, like many core blocks has made many revisions to its front end HTML and CSS since first release. If we had integrated our customizer with Woo blocks from the start, we would have committed many thousands of obsolete lines of code. Which nobody wants in the plugin.

Further advancements will depend somewhat on what Woo does next. We expect them to build out more blocks for building single products etc, and it is wise for us to see what they do before we build something in its place.

I hope this helps somewhat with your thoughts on this matter.

  • Hello David,

I wanted to address an issue regarding the cart not updating itself when adding a product using Woocommerce Blocks. I’ve referenced the discussion on GitHub here: https://github.com/tomusborne/generatepress/issues/594

Additionally, the customizer seems to be non-functional for the checkout fields, as you’ve previously noted.

Furthermore, the checkout block appears to not adhere to the theme’s width, lacking paddings as I recall from the last review.

Considering the lack of significant updates to the theme and the aforementioned issues, I believe that GeneratePress requires some additional attention.

Please understand that my intention is not to criticize, but rather to assess the situation and see how we can address these matters. GeneratePress has been a valuable tool over the years, and the support team has been excellent. However, I’ve noticed a gap in its alignment with recent WordPress developments.

  • Hi there,

Based on my knowledge, I don’t think there’s much we can do, as all the settings are now in the block level. And the theme can not control blocks from other plugins, including Woocommerce.

Anyways, thanks for opening the issue, I’m sure if this is not the case, our dev team will respond to the issue sooner or later.

  • Hi there,

I just say that Generatepress has stoped “functioning” with latest Woocommerce websites.

You advertise the GP premium with its extension for Woocommerce, but have you installed any new Woocommerce website to see the cart or the checkout page for an example?

    Its a block..

So what I want to say, the user has to delete those two pages and add a shortcode so he can use the GPP and the module of Woocommerce that is supposed to work out of the box..

In my honest opinion this is not really cool, and please consider that an upgrade and support for Woocommerce is voted one of the most important updates GP “has” to do. But its been already 2 or 3 years without any significant update.

In any case I will say it again, that this is just a feedback and a view as a GP user the last 6 years, I dont want to be rude or something.

    Have a nice day

    Andreas

  • Theme can only control the PHP template (shortcode in this case), not the blocks, unfortunately.

But as I said, if there’s a possibility, our dev will review your issue and reply to it 🙂
