Screen reader accessibility

  • Hello,
I am checking the accessibility of the navigation with the screen reader www.nvaccess.org. The texts and the language switcher flag-icons are all read on hover, but the home icon and the search open and close icons are not read.
Is there a way to fix this?

  • Hi there,

the home icon has a title attribute of home
and the search icon has an aria-label of open search
both of which are methods that screen readers can use to read the icon.
I tested the site using voice over on macOS and those links are read.

Does that testing tool provide any info on the issue it sees ?

As a general note regarding the navigation search, the new Navigation Search Modal has improved Accessibility overall.

  • Hi David,
thank you for checking from your side. Probably the screen reader NVDA has some bugs. I tested now with the Chromevox reader and it works.
    Thank you 🙂
