Search box not working when logged out – GP Pro GBlocks Info

  • Hi,
Using the latest GeneratePress Pro / GenerateBlocks Pro and the new Info theme, and just noticed that when logged out, our Search box does not open (afraid I didn’t notice before as I’m usually logged in when using Search). Almost all of our readers though are not logged in, meaning search is broken for the vast majority.
I believe this may be cache related, we use WP Rocket and Cloudflare. I tried disabling “load javascript deferred” and “Delay javascript execution” but it did not seem to help even after clearing both caches.
I took a quick look at F12>Console, but there’s nothing there when clicking the search button when logged out (I’m not a dev, just trying to keep this site running).
Can you help to point me to ways to get Search working?

  • Hi there,

can you temporarily disable any cache / optimization plugins so we can see if that is the cause?

  • OK apologies but this is getting weird – shortly after submitting this ticket I was informed that some of our pages were showing double headers double header
(we had started with the larger header, but moved to a smaller one, all controlled by the Customizer). This was not showing on all pages, in fact it was only showing on a couple of author bio pages (using a Block Page Hero element on Author Archives), but not all authors. It also showed on a couple of random tag pages, but not all.
After some trial and error and pure luck, I turned OFF Customizer > Layout > Header > Mobile Header, and the double headers went away.
Apparently the problem with the search box went away too, as it’s working now.
However now I’m left with a less than ideal mobile header, which while not great is better than the other two problems.
Not really sure where to go next, this seems like a bug.

  • As I said, once I disabled Customizer > Layout > Header > Mobile Header, the Search box problem went away. At first the mobile header was messed up, but that has cleared up, too. I’m hesitant to continue testing on this live site now that everything’s working. Will just chalk it up to gremlins 🙂

  • OK, i am glad to hear it is working
