Is it possible to add a search box to query loop results that will only search the results of the query and not all content in the site?
I guess this is similar to how a portfolio functions, except with a search box instead of filtering by category.

I don’t think so.
You might need to look into plugins, I saw a user mentioned the Filter everything plugin, but I haven’t tested it myself.
