Stories Archives for Web Stories

  • OK.

    1. Install the GenerateBlocks plugin from the WordPress repository.

    2. In Appearance > GeneratePress activate the Elements module

    3. In Appearance > Elements -> Add New –> Block Element
    3.1 set the Element Type to Content Template:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/

    3.2 Set the Editor width to a reasonable size for designing a single post card, eg. 400px.

    3.3 Set the Display Rules > Location to All Archives.
    This will apply to all archives so the design will be consistent.

    3.4 Now in the editor, add:

    i) a GB Image Block, in its sidebar settings
    Select an appropriate imagesize.
    Activate its Dynamic Data and set the Content Source to Featured Image and the Link Source to Single Post.

    ii) a GB Headline Block below the Image, and set its Dynamic data to show the Post Title and link that to the post.

    Style the blocks as you need.

  • Hi @David, it works and many thanks. Although I don’t understand what exactly content template is, it is amazing!

    For now, I only applied this content template block to the web stories archive page. What’s the option to remove the underline from those H2?

    Thanks to you and your team so much for helping me out!

  • Great to hear that.
    To explain:
    Im the theme there are templates eg.the archive.php for archive pages, the single.php for single posts etc. And within those templates there is a template part for displaying your post content. Those parts are Content Templates.
    And the block element content template allows you to replace those template parts with your own block built templates πŸ™‚

    For the link underlines – go to Customiser > General and set the Underline Links to Never

  • Okay, thank you David. I learned alot from this thread and will continue to explore other features GP provides. Instead of removing underlines globally, is there any option for these H2 only as I still want to keep underlines for links inside my articles?

    Also, I just wanted to confirm that if I had dozens of stories and set Blog pages show at most = 10 in the Dashbord->Settings->Reading, it will show page navigations like what can be found in a normal category page, correct? I don’t have enough stories to test but I just wanted to confirm it with you.

    Once again, thank you so much!

  • Try adding this CSS to remove just the H2 underlines:

    h2 a {
        text-decoration: none;
    }

    And regarding the archive pagination, yes thats correct GP will display the navigation in its templates if its is required and that will apply to the stories too…. if for some reason it doesn’t we can make it work πŸ™‚

  • Awesome! Many thanks to you and your team. I really appreciate all the effort you made to help me out in this thread!

    Hats off

  • Happy to hear that πŸ™‚

  • Hi @David,

    Is there a way to add a hero section to the story archive page?

    If possible, could you also guide me how to add a hero section to category pages?

    Many thanks!

  • Hi Jeanzahn,

    There should be a way. Can you start a new topic regarding this? We’ll try to assist you afterward.
