UNderstanding Global Styles. Question – when to use them?

  • Hello support

Long time very happy Generateblocks and Generatepress user here.

I’m struggling to understand Global Styles in Generateblocks.
Some questions, maybe helpful for others too.

    1. If I add a page hero pattern to one page only will I get a global-styles css file that will be carried over to all pages on the site? Also, when editors play and create content with patterns, do we end up with unexpectedly long css added to the file?

    2. Copy-pasting a block from a multilingual WordPress multisite (which is my personal, most useful Gutenberg feature) to another site in the multisite setup using one of the new global-styles from Generateblocks results in a broken layout. I have to do a manual, additional tools-export-global-styles only and import them on the second site every time? Generateblocks does not allow you to copy content to other languages using translation.

    3. I still understand the benefit of global styles. What is your advice, best practice or use case for a multi-site setup with Generateblocks that avoids such manual export-import actions? I want to use a template and push it to other languages in the WordPress multisite setup.

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Greetings from Hamburg, Germany.

  • Hi there,

I’ll try to answer your questions from the general scope. 🙂

The global styles CSS will only be loaded on the page where the global styles are applied. Currently, the only way to seamlessly apply global styles to multiple sites is to export and import them, but we are looking to make this process as seamless as possible.
