URL Link directly to File in Page

  • Hi Generate Support,

I have this set-up using GB Query Loop and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to view PDFs and other media (Screenshot 1 – Link 1).
    In specific:
    – There’s a custom Post Type: “Resources”.
    – A Resources Post contains the File title and will have a ACF File field where a Media file can be attached.
    – I create a GB Query Loop to list all these “Resources” to create a view and for users to be able to click on the list to get to the corresponding Media file.
    – When the Item in the Query Loop is clicked, I’ve set it up so the Link is to the file.

Please refer to my previous topic: https://generate.support/topic/creating-a-semi-sortable-automatic-downloads-page-using-query-loop-block/

This solution works great regarding the Query Loop. The issue with this is when I go to the URL of a given Resource Post, it’s blank.
Is there a way to be redirected to the associated File of the Post when I actually go to the URL?

    Thanks for all your help.

  • Hi there,

Where can the users access the URLs of the Resouce posts?

  • So that our internal team can use the URL of the page to send the File to another User instead of using the direct File URL (since Files may get updated due to regulatory reasons).

If we send over the direct File link to “User A” and the file is updated within the week, we’d have to send the new File Link also. We also don’t like the structure of the link.

I’m looking to be able to send “User B” a link to the Resource Post so all I have to do is update the File field within the Post and User B’s link will still be the most updated version. Without having to generate a new link.

We’d also like to be able to use these links on other Platforms, Marketing Material, etc.

I’ve tried to embed a PDF Viewer/Plug-in to these Resource Posts but we’d much prefer if the URL just redirects to the associated File within the browser’s official PDF Viewer.

Let me know what’s the best solution.

  • GP does not manage permalinks, so the best solution is to use a redirect plugin.
