Blog Layout Issue

  • Apologies for the generic title, I am unsure what else to classify this as.

    1) I am using Streamer Theme Template, but I really like the look of the ‘Info’ Template and I am trying to build out my domain.com/blog page.
Is there any way I can use the Info Template but use this just for my blog? I essentially want my blog page to look like: https://pasteboard.co/4KmUIQ9FwmQ9.png

I have been playing around with GenerateBlocks and found an acceptable layout. This displays fine on my ‘Private Content Test Page’ but when I paste these blocks to the blog, it just breaks?

Does the blog use something else to manage the layout etc?
I have tried disabling blog elements, pasting the blocks in the blog element but I have no success.

  • In addition to this, is there any way to have horizontal category type filter, so the users can filter horizontally from the main page and take away the need for a sidebar?

  • Hi there,

How did you add the example you showed in your first image? Is that a static page with a query loop ?

  • Hi David,

    updated (private)

  • Is that just a Page ?

  • Yes this is a page.

  • Ok, to replace the Blog and Archive pages with a Query Loop you would need to:

    1. visit the blog page, and check the Admin Bar -> Elements menu.
It provides shortcuts to any elements on that page that are saved in Appearance > Elements.
You need to Quick Edit the Content Template and set its Status to Draft. This will disable it.

    2. Create a Block Element Loop Template:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-loop-template/

Set the Display Rules to Blog and All Archives.
Add you Query Loop block to the element editor, but make sure its Parameters are left as default and just check the Inherit Query for Template option.

  • I’ve added some more bits for you πŸ™‚ Nearly there!

  • I have resolved the sidebar issue within Customise > layout

However, the layout does not match the design I have in editor? Odd!

  • Hi there,

The blog page and the category page look the same to me.

Any specific section shall I be checking?

For the content template that doesn’t apply issue, can you make sure all the posts are using Gutenberg editor, NOT classic editor?

    Let me know πŸ™‚

  • Good Evening Ying.

I have since resolved some of the issues I pointed out. However, one issue remains.

(I have placed this in the private box)

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Are you using a Loop Template?

If so, have you enabled “Inherit Query from template” for the Query Loop? Reference: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-loop-template/

  • Updated the links in Private! πŸ™‚ Thanks for pointing that out, It appeared to have 2 loop queries, one was set, but my featured article is actually static and shouldn’t be there

  • 1. You’ll need a custom code or a plugin for a filter.

What sort of dropdown is this? Can you provide an example?

    2. For clarity, can you share screenshots of these issues?

  • Ok thanks for confirming this, unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything on the market without needing Elementor.
