GB Pattern Library thumbnails not loading

  • Hi Guys,

When using the latest version of Chrome on macOS Ventura, many of the GB Pattern Library preview thumbnails load either very slowly or not at all (endless loading icon).

The large preview modals seem to load fine when I click the eye icon. It’s just the smaller thumbnails.

The issue does NOT occur with either Safari or Firefox on Mac. It feels like maybe a lazy loading issue specific to Chrome.

    Without success, I’ve tried:

    * Clearing server cache (WP Engine)
    * Clearing browser cache
    * Disabling other plugins
    * Chrome Inspector console shows a dozen of this:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading ‘addEventListener’)
    at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (?gb-template-viewer=1:74:13)

I’ve noticed a few other comments about loading problems. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Phil

  • Hi there,

I don’t have the issue running GB pattern library on a Macbook Pro using Chrome.

Do you have any browser extensions? If so, can you try it in an incognito window?

Let me know how the test goes 🙂

  • All Chrome extensions disabled: Problem persists
    Chrome Incognito mode: Problem persists

  • Hi there,

would it be possible to get a temporary admin login so I can take a closer look ?

  • Sure.

  • OK, see my reply here for reference:

    https://generate.support/topic/new-global-styles-pattern-library-problems/page/2/#post-105317

I am going to raise an internal issue so we can take a closer look at whats occurring here.
The other user experiencing the similar issue does not have same console errors as you do.
But all the same it seems chrome is prone to breaking.

Is it ok if we keep the login whilst we investigate ?

  • Yes.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Thank you!
I have tagged your support topics in our internal issue. We will reply here.

  • We have created a patch for the chrome loading issue.
You can download the patched version of GenerateBlocks Free 1.9 here:

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkmyF7o2B-NGizw-uDY91T-XW9Km?e=JvBrsN

Could you install and test ?

  • Hi David,

    * Generate Blocks 1.9 (free) patch installed.
    * Working much better in Chrome on iMac M1. All pattern thumbnails now load, but still a bit slower than Safari and Firefox.

    Notes

    * In the Pattern Library, when “All” is selected (no filter), Gallery patterns 1-9 appear. When “Gallery” filter is applied, only Gallery patterns 1, 2, 3, and 7 appear. This happens in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on iMac M1.

    * Also, the filter for “Logo” patterns does not appear in the filter list, but the patterns are available under “All”.

Will the patch be added to a future update of GenerateBlocks?

    Thanks for your help.

    Phil

  • Is the patched plugin installed on the site you shared the URL to ? its the wepengine domain.

Yes the patch will be added to the next release. We may push it out sooner once we tested it some more.

And ill get the Logo patterns properly categorised so they are filterable.

  • Yes. Patch installed on the shared domain.

Would you like access for a while longer?

  • It would be great if we could keep the access for a day or so? Is that ok?
Its just that the issue is really hit and miss.

  • Sure.

Will keep available until notified by you.

  • Thank you – is it ok if we disable plugins on the site to check for conflicts?
And also disable the Fade In Animation on the site, as thats getting involved with the previews too.

  • Sure.

All custom CSS is in style.css of GP child theme.
