Left aligned blog post on GP Premium

  • Hi there,

I am using GP Premium and my blog pages are left-aligned by default. I would like them to be centered so that there is equal space on both sides.

How can I change these settings?

    Cheers!

  • Hi there,

sounds like you have an empty right sidebar on your posts.
Can i see a post on your site to confirm this ?

  • Hi David,

Here is a link to a test post provided in the private information block.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks.

  • OK, so theres 2 things:

    1. the posts are set to display a sidebar
Go to Customizer > Layout > Sidebars and set the Post option to Content ( No Sidebar)

    2. the post has a Full Width content container.
Do you know how that was set ? if so can you set it back to default
If you don’t know then its either:
    a) been set on the individual post in the post editor Layout meta box:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/content-container/

    b) Using a layout element:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-element-overview/

  • Hi David,

Thanks. I tried the option # 1. but it’s not letting me save. I am getting an error “Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.”

This has been going on for last 3 days.

Any idea what it could be? There is no problem with internet speed. Any insight will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • First go to the Dashboard > Tools > Site Health and check for any critical errors listed there.
If there are non, in that same panel switch to the Info tab and check the Servers settings. Let me know what they are.

  • Thanks. There is an error stating “Background updates are not working as expected” in the Site Health Check.

Background updates ensure that WordPress can auto-update if a security update is released for the version you are currently using.

  • ok… seems fine.
If you go back to the Customizer, and Right Click > Inspect the page to open the Browser developers tools. Check in the Console tab for any errors before and after you see the Looks like something’s gone wrong message

  • Hey David, Today I tried again to save the Sidebar settings in the layout (i.e. customiser-> layout -> Content without sidebars and I was able to save the settings. So I completed both A & B steps.

But even after doing the above settings, my post is still starting from the extreme left-hand side.
Not sure what else could be wrong here? Any idea?

    Thanks.

  • The page has its Content Container set to Full Width.
    Refer to point 2 here:
    https://generate.support/topic/left-aligned-blog-post-on-gp-premium/#post-99362

  • Hi David, I’ve checked multiple times and the content container isn’t set to full width. Its current setting is “Default”. There is no provision to attach a screenshot else I could’ve shown it to you. I am attaching another post in the box below and it’s exactly same even though the content container is the default. Thanks.

  • Then its probably been set using a Layout Element:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-element-overview/

View the post, and check in the Admin Bar > Elements menu.
Here it will list any elements loading on that page. Is one of them a Layout Element ?

  • Layout element have been defined but it had default width. I also hanged it to content without sidebars but that didn’t help at all. There is no change in the post’s layout.

  • Hi there,

If possible, could you provide temporary login credentials for your site so we can take a closer look at what’s going on?

  • Hi Alvind, Thanks for your response. COuld you please provide me with your email address as without it I am not able to generate an user account on WordPress plugin.

    thanks much.

  • Hi there,

when you create the new user, just make up a email address, it doesn’t need to be real.
