Problems with defined widths.

  • Hi there,

I am currently working on the “Home Page” as a landing site.
Now I have some annoying problems.

I want the top of the page to have full width and containers below with defined widths.
Similar to the: Freelance template in your site library.

I am currently trying with the “Content Container” set to full width – that helps width the top.
But it seems impossible to define specific sizes for containers afterwards.

What can I do to solve this – thanks and best regards

  • But it seems impossible to define specific sizes for containers afterwards.

You can set a max-width for the container, and set margin-left and margin-right both to auto, so it centers.

For more info about containers: https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/container-overview/

Let me know if this helps!

  • Heya thanks for the fast respons.

I tried that – the container is not moving and still floating left.

    thanks

  • Hi Tsken,

Can you share the link to where you’ve created this?

  • Sure – here you go

  • Which section are you referring to? Is this the one?: https://share.getcloudapp.com/Wnumn8X6

It’s centered from my end if so.

  • I updated with a SS – It doesn’t look like that on my end.

  • Okay so I tried opening in another browser – I used Chrome before.
And it looked fine! Then I tried clearing the history for the browser for the last 24 hours – and then it looks fine as well.

Sorry I tried for like 5 hours before posting this – I didn’t think it could be a “my browser cache problem” 🙁

Thanks for your support! I really appreciate your fast respons and time. even on a case where it was on my end.

    Best regards

  • Still it does seem like I have less control over other areas when I define the “Front page” with: Full width.
If I change sizes on the lower part there is no change. Doesn’t matter if it’s 1200 width or 600 it looks the same. Even after clearing the cache.

Is there perhaps another way that I can make the first container full so it looks the same like the example. But without setting the template full width?

  • Where are you adding the padding exactly?

I would suggest temporarily disabling caching plugins as well while making changes.

  • It’s every change I make – if I put a bottom margin on the lower container it changes in the view but not on the site.

I will step away from this for some hours and come back – it might just be me.

  • Yes, it may be just caching server-side or somewhere else.

  • And just to be clear, is there another way that works better to do the setup?

A method I can get full width on the top container just how it is now on the website.

And then define other elements on the site with other sizes.

But without setting the page template to full width and just default.

Also it’s broken on mobile so it doesn’t seem responsive, just like when I made the elements. The text is for an example gone. It wasn’t earlier. Geez 🙄

    Best regards

  • Hi there,

if you need full width content on a page then the best method is to set the Content to Full Width.
Then use the GenerateBlocks Container Blocks to split the page into Sections.

As a default i would recommend for each section add a Container then add its Inner Container:

    https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/add-inner-container/

This parent container is where you can add the background, it will span the full width of the page.
The inner container is where you add your content. If you use the toolbar button show in that doc, it will center the container and set the max width.

Once added Select the Inner Container and:

    1. Spacing > Padding add some padding, eg. 30px all round.
    2. Sizing > Max Width, by default the inner container

    Build inside that inner Container.

  • Hi David,

I am sure that your description will work – seems like it would at least, after reading and understanding the documentation.

When I started to recreate the page, the image and buttons are not visible now.

I must have broken something. Any ideas?

    best regards

  • Hi Tsken,

Can you check with your Hosting Provider if they have a CDN setup? Not all resources on your site are loading. That may be causing it.

Try disabling all caching/optimization plugins temporarily as well.
